The New Chamber Of Commerce
Technology with Integrity

By Tim Torian, Torian Group, Inc.

Along with a new building, the Chamber has been making strides to be more current with technology. Here are some of the highlights.

The new chamber web site incorporates the new logo, and is easier to navigate. It prominently displays the 4 main components of the chamber mission: Community, Advocacy, Education, and Networking. It is better organized, making it easier to for the various groups that use the site to go right to what they want.  It is easier to manage, with tools that allow the chamber staff to update content, rather than depending on a web developer to make changes. It is designed for growth – coming soon is the members only section, which will include member to member discount coupons, and the ability for members to log on and update their contact information that appears in the member directory. It is also designed to be self supporting – Banner ads and a member spotlight are available to members, and have gotten a good response. Take a look:  www.visaliachamber.org

The new building is fully enabled for computer networking with both wired and wireless network access, and a dedicated space for network, cable, phone, and internet connections.  The Board room has a state of the art multimedia / theater system for presentations and meetings. The new network server enables staff to access their desktop computer remotely from anywhere that they can connect to the internet. It supports forwarding email to smart phones, which keeps Mike Cully even busier. The server also manages email for the chamber staff, allowing them to share contact lists for frequently emailed groups.  It also includes an Intranet, which allows groups working together on a project to share a “virtual” work space which can extend to committees and interest group s within the chamber. This allows sharing of documents, with the ability to be notified by email when a document of interest has been updated.  All of this is secured so that only those that are authorized can have access.

The front counter has a new video “announcement board” showing current events, meetings, and a directory of the building. Although it looks fancy, it is actually just a computer running powerpoint. The computer was donated by Structures Plus, a new chamber member.

The new chamber is “technology enabled” moving forward in serving the business community in new and better ways.  Be sure to check your member listing in the chamber directory, and make sure your email and website contact information are correct.  Contact darlene@visaliachamber.org  with any corrections.
